We LOVE history .....

We have just finished learning about Mongolia and it's people. What an interesting section. Sonlight Core 5 Eastern Hemisphere included a wonderful book ..... Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde.

We just could not keep to the daily readings as it was way too exciting .... so we sped ahead and finished the book with in a couple of days. We finished off the section with a viewing of the movie MONGOL .
I found the movie to be visually stunning, historically accurate and very entertaining. It is subtitled and quite violent (It carries an age restriction of 15), but my boys were fine with it, and are still talking about it two days later!

No More Please!

A poem about History written by CoolDude (age 10)

No More Please!!

History, people say it's a mystery.
I wonder why it makes me cry ?
When most of the people sadly die!

Columbus, Franklin and Roosevelt too,
so much to learn about when you review.

Genghis and Kublai the ones who would cube ya,
Make our poor leader look like a drooler!

I've read too much I now have a stitch,
anymore and I might just ditch!

Okay so it sounds almost like a rap song ...... but I just love it!

Wall Climbing in the Drakensberg!

WizzKid led the way . He kept telling the guy at the bottom NOT TO PULL HIM UP! It took him a while, but he was so excited when he touched the metal bar. He had done it on his own!

Then it was CoolDudes turn. His slight frame and two pull-up's from the guy on the ground helped him race up the wall like Speedy Gonzales!

Miss Tanzi shocked us all ......... This was the first time she had ever attempted wall climbing. She was fearless and went straight to the top! Of course she had quite a bit of help from the guy on the ground.

She was so comfortable being high up in the air and was definitely not afraid of the height at which she was suspended!!

I'm going to be so sore .........

As I lie on my hotel bed, I can feel my muscles are going to ache when I wake up tomorrow morning!
We have just come back from a Quad bike ride in the mountains.

This was a first for Tanzi and I, .... but definitely not the last time I will venture up steep and rocky terrain on a quad! The experience was awesome and the views spectacular !!

I think I know what I want for my 4oth ! MrGee seems to think I might be starting my midlife crisis. hehe

HeHeHe ........

Our family is on holiday in the Drakensberg, and look ...... MrGee is getting into the swing of things!

I love it when MrGee fools around like this! It reminds of when we were just married. Those days were "responsibility free" days, .... and we were each others entertainment!!!!

A Family Tradition

Many years ago I read in one of Dr Dobson's books that it is important to create family traditions because they bring everyone together. To make something a tradition, it needs to be a recurring event that is anticipated and enjoyed by all!
One of my kid's favorites is to have a 'picnic dinner'. The name says it all ..... I clear the lounge , spread a blanket on the floor and place bowls of the kids favorite finger food down. Lots of candles are lit. Only after I have set the scene are the kids allowed to enter and grab a spot on the floor.

Then we switch off the lights and enjoy a movie together. Table etiquette is done away with and NO table manners are allowed.(oh they just love this part!) Fun is the order of the evening! Last Friday CoolDude and WizzKid each had a friend over so I decided to surprise them with a 'picnic dinner'. It was a hit !

(I would love to hear about your favorite family tradition.)

Way too long!

It has been a while since I have seen my beautiful niece, Hannah. In fact it is almost 2 long years! My brother and his wife are pastors/lead elders of a church in Witbank and they came to Durban for a national church conference. Miss Hannah, along with Granny and Grandpa, came to stay with us for a night.

Hannah is a girl with a contagious giggle, mischievous smile and endearing personality. Miss Tanzi was in awe of her cousin ..... who played the piano beautifully!

Tanzi was also overjoyed to have some girl time with Hannah. The boys would jokingly shout," Stop being such girls!!!!" They loved that. They played with Polly and her minute friends, changed clothes way too many times and spied on the boys!

This last pic took ages to take ..... co-operation was an issue!!!! Miss Hannah did not want to be hugged by CoolDude ..... she was embarrassed.

It was a wonderful time of catching up ........ just what families need now an' again!
Hopefully it won't be another two years before we all see each other!

Regular posts are not occurring on this blog .... SORRY!
I honestly have had nothing exciting to write about lately.

All that seems to be going on over here is the wading through of heaps of work, and in my case loads of marking! WizzKids studies through the British International College are going well, BUT it is ALOT of work. His work ethic is being challenged. He is a very bright boy, but he will try to cut corners and get away with doing the least amount of work! I find I am having to step into my 'gestapo boots' and give him a swift kick in the buttocks every so often!

Next week we are going to the mountains for 5 days so I can see a shimmer of light in the distance!

We need another Mandela!

Jacob Zuma became our new president this weekend. For 80% of the people in this country it was a joyous moment, but for a small majority of S.Africans it was a very sad day. He is not a man that should be leading ANY country. He should have been convicted of rape and other crimes , but because of the intimidation from his ardent followers, his court case was thrown out! He now rules our country!
