I try not to use my blog as a rant-and-rave pedestal, but today I will!
To put you in the picture ........
MrGee and I keep a very close monitor on what our boys read and watch. We have security(Bit Defender)on all our computers.Even with this precaution the boys are not allowed to browse the internet without one of us present, and they do not have TV's or computers in their rooms.
We are a little more lenient when it comes to a movie that contains violence. What I mean by this, is that if the movie is age restricted PG13 and it's only for violence(eg '10000 BC' or The Fugitive), then we will allow our 13 and 10 year old boys to watch it. We do not do sitcoms with homosexu@l characters, or any TV program/movie that promotes pre-marit@l sex, infidelity or g@y relationships.
With regards to reading we allow most fantasy books (eg Eragon, the Narnia series and Lord of the Rings) but we do not allow the reading of any of the Harry Potter books which portray evil as good!
Having said all that,....... I am still finding it extremely hard to protect my kids' minds and preserve their innocence.
Two months ago MrGee bought the boys and I cell phone contracts. Since then CoolDude and I have been sent revolting messages encouraging us to visit some horrific websites.
Today WizzKid popped the latest PC Format Magazine in the trolley .... as I unpacked the grocery bags, I came across this .......
Blinken heck (yes, I'm peeved) ..... Wizkid loves this mag for it's info on computer issues, new gadgets, and latest games. (And that's ALL I want him to love it for!) Then I look inside ...... my anger boils as I rip 4 more pages of semi n@ked girls from within!
I'm aware that my children will see stuff they shouldn't see but I do believe, that as parents, we are to try and prevent this from happening for as L-O-N-G as possible.
Besides going to live on a remote island ........ what more can parents do to protect our children? ........... or am I just being over the top?
