Boys need to rough it !

Whilst browsing through my photos, I came across a few that I had never seen before.
WizzKid had downloaded them from his camera and (like many males!) had forgotten to tell me about them!! *wink, wink*
THEY ARE STUNNING ...... they capture a wonderful week WizzKidd and Cooldude got to spend with their Granny and Grandpa from Bloemfontein.
I picked my favourite.......
The boys flew for the first time by themselves to Bloemfontein(a 2 hour flight)........ Wizzkid got a gorgeous view of the clouds!

Grandpa and Granny took them fishing for the day .... they didn't catch much .... but CoolDude was very proud of his ONLY catch! Yes sad, very sad.

They got to travel in style ...... NOT ! They shared the Buckie with slobber-dog, Ruby, but they loved every minute of it!

Grandpa taught them how to shoot with a proper bow and arrow ...... they were in awe of his archery skills!

But most of all..... I could see by the pics, that they just loved being BOYS ! Mucking it, not bathing for way to long, plastering themselves with camo-paint and shooting numerous different weapons!

My boys still talk about this week with Granny and Grandpa ...... and now I know why!

No Ordinary Child.

I have just finished reading a book of note .... "NO ORDINARY CHILD" by Denise Mira. She has been a homeschooling mom to 5 vibrant and strong willed boys. Her book is filled with a lot of practical advice and excellent biblical insights into the Moses Generation that needs to come forth! She speaks straight from the heart on how to unlock the leader within your child and she is not afraid to ruffle a few feathers. (Just my kinda gal!)
"At times when God wants to reveal something to me that's going to shift my paradigm, it can make me angry. When I'm offended, what needs to change in me is revealed. I've found that God offends my mind in order to reveal what's in my heart."[Denise Mira]

This book is very challenging on a practical level. I could go on an' on , but I suggest you just grab yourself a copy and ENJOY!

What was I thinking ?

I had the desire for sushi yesterday arvi, so I googled 'Californian rolls' and made a quick visit to 'the village' for the necessary ingredients. It was simple enough but rather fiddly ..... and although the end result looked very pretty and professional , I was a little disappointed!

Okay,... I'm not a seafood-and-raw-fish-kinda-girl ( nor are my kids) but I thought perhaps MY sushi would be SO EXTRA yummy that our taste buds would fall in love with this healthy dish. I was so wrong.
So ..... the next time I get the urge for "Shoossee" (as Tanzi calls it), I will do take-out!

This riles me so !

I try not to use my blog as a rant-and-rave pedestal, but today I will!

To put you in the picture ........
MrGee and I keep a very close monitor on what our boys read and watch. We have security(Bit Defender)on all our computers.Even with this precaution the boys are not allowed to browse the internet without one of us present, and they do not have TV's or computers in their rooms.

We are a little more lenient when it comes to a movie that contains violence. What I mean by this, is that if the movie is age restricted PG13 and it's only for violence(eg '10000 BC' or The Fugitive), then we will allow our 13 and 10 year old boys to watch it. We do not do sitcoms with homosexu@l characters, or any TV program/movie that promotes pre-marit@l sex, infidelity or g@y relationships.
With regards to reading we allow most fantasy books (eg Eragon, the Narnia series and Lord of the Rings) but we do not allow the reading of any of the Harry Potter books which portray evil as good!

Having said all that,....... I am still finding it extremely hard to protect my kids' minds and preserve their innocence.
Two months ago MrGee bought the boys and I cell phone contracts. Since then CoolDude and I have been sent revolting messages encouraging us to visit some horrific websites.
Today WizzKid popped the latest PC Format Magazine in the trolley .... as I unpacked the grocery bags, I came across this .......

Blinken heck (yes, I'm peeved) ..... Wizkid loves this mag for it's info on computer issues, new gadgets, and latest games. (And that's ALL I want him to love it for!) Then I look inside ...... my anger boils as I rip 4 more pages of semi n@ked girls from within!
I'm aware that my children will see stuff they shouldn't see but I do believe, that as parents, we are to try and prevent this from happening for as L-O-N-G as possible.

Besides going to live on a remote island ........ what more can parents do to protect our children? ........... or am I just being over the top?

A poem by WizzKid ......

The Race.

Nervously I stand behind the block
One whistle, two whistles and I’m on top
For a moment the world seems to freeze
Then the 3rd whistle causes the silence to cease

High over the glass water I soar
For a second it’s still and nothing more
With a minute splash I’m engulfed in
Under the water I stay as straight as a pin

As fast as I can, I race to the end
The crowd goes wild as I writhe and bend
Closer and closer to the wall I come
My legs and my arms start to go numb

The checkered flags rush up to greet me
Victory in my mouth tastes sweetly
I touch the wall and I cant swim on
But I don’t have to because I’VE WON.

He has to go.

Oh the joys of living in a complex! * sarcasm intended*

We have had complaints from 3 neighbours that our Tiggy-Pooh is being a nuisance. Tiggy is the most beautiful cat who is loved dearly by the kids. Apparently the neighbours are irritated with his many visits and his defecating in their garden beds. The body corporate rules allow us to have a cat, but it states that he must be kept within the boundaries of our garden. I mean pa- leeeese ..... how do we do that? A cat knows no boundaries and it's in a cat's nature to wander! The neighbours have taken their grievances to the body corporate and the Chairman of the body corporate told MrGee that if we do not find a new home for Tiggy, they will get the police and SPCA to remove him !!!
MrGee has consulted lawyers, and we could oppose this action ............ BUT we feel it's not in our favour to fight this. MrGee has kidney disease and he does not need extra stress in his life , so unfortunately Tiggy has got to go!

The kids are very upset.

Crafting together!

Early yesterday evening Miss Tanzi came to me and asked ...... "PLEEEEESE can we make something together?" Being the crafty type, I like to keep the odd thing or two stored in the cupboard just in case I feel inspired ! So I pulled out some very inexpensive wooden photo frames and some left over mosaic tiles ........ and we started creating together.

Within an hour or so we had created four pretty frames. Miss Tanzi was extremely proud of her produce. I put the glue on for her, but she did the rest totally by herself. She chose the colours and where the mosaic tiles should be placed.
I'm so blessed to have a daughter that loves making things with me!
