Many years ago I read in one of Dr Dobson's books that it is important to create
family traditions because
they bring everyone together. To make something a tradition, it needs to be a recurring event that is anticipated and enjoyed by all!
One of my kid's favorites is to have a
'picnic dinner'. The name says it all ..... I clear the lounge , spread a blanket on the floor and place bowls of the kids
favorite finger food down. Lots of
candles are lit. Only after I have set the scene are the kids allowed to enter and grab a spot on the floor.
Then we switch off the lights and enjoy a movie together. Table etiquette is done away with and NO table manners are allowed.(oh they just love this part!)
Fun is the order of the evening! Last Friday CoolDude and WizzKid each had a friend over so I decided to
surprise them with a 'picnic dinner'.
It was a hit !(I would love to hear about your favorite family tradition.)

What a great tradition! I love this! We do something a little similar- we put a blanket on the floor and they can eat their supper and watch a movie (finger foods would be better, tho)
how fun! we are working on making Friday family night around here. It will take some saying no to some things but will totally be worth it
I love this!!!!! We do similar.....we love snacking suppers. We also have Taco Tuesdays at our house. Every Tuesday is Mexican fare. Once a year we have ice cream only (dessert only, no real food)for supper too. I used to cook choc chip pancakes every Sat night, but we have not been doing this lately. Most every other family tradittions revovle around holidays.
Be blessed,
Chasity
I'm sure they'll always remember this and carry it on with their children! Seems like loads of fun.
Oh this sounds like so much fun. I have to say though that you're quite daring having candles lit on the floor with kids around. What movie did they watch? I bet your kids' friends will brag to everyone now about what a cool Mom you are!!!
