I have used the Sonlight curriculum for 3 years and love it! Well almost all of it. To be honest I don't really enjoy the Sonlight Language Arts. I know that there are many options out there (an internet search can leave you feeling quite confused), but I value the advice of friends and their hands-on experience. SO........ please tell me what Language Arts program you love and why.
Thanx.

For Tanzi, I would suggest First Language Lessons by Jessie Wise for first and second grade (Class 2 I guess for you); then Primary Language Lessons and Intermediate Language Lessons by Emma Serl. Then, Writing Strands the series for the boys and when she's older. They are all amazing. The get great reviews.
Some people like IEW (Institute for Excellence in Writing) and I believe that IEW and Writing Strands can go toe to toe if you compared them. I just liked the cost of Writing Strands! And, a review of both of them, made me go with Writing Strands. Hope this helps.
If it's worth anything, I think I might be changing TO Sonlight! I dunno, but l2learn's admin is up to maggots!
We've used everything under the sun. But this year we geared it more towards the Charlotte Mason method and went with Queen Homeschool -- you can look it up that way online and find it. It's very simple, stays within the Charlotte Mason ideas, its quick and the kids are actually enjoying it this year too!
We've used LifePacs, Abeka, Easy/Daily Grammar, and a host of other things. But it was too much drill, drill, drill and just too over the top. Too much work.
Now we read aloud more for most subjects and do minimum table/pencil time and we have seem a lot more progress that way.
